Appalachia Service Project

Appalachia Service Project ... Making homes warmer, safer, and drier ... Transforming lives
This motto, mission statement, doesn't say all there is to say about this service mission. Not only are we working for others and providing them with needed repairs (sometimes beyond repair - rebuilding) to continue surviving in their homes, we ourselves are touched by the generosity of the families we serve.
Mt. Moriah UMC has been participating in this mission service on and off for more years than this webservant has been associated with the church family. This year (2009) we are sending 23 individuals to Summers County WVa - teams of teens with adult coordinators, and hope to continue growing along with this mission.
Most of the youth that choose to go on this mission service trip raise the funds necessary to secure their spot by participating in fundraisers, finding sponsors, and the church family participates in buying "Shares" in the youth missionaries. 2006 was the first year for the "Shareholder" banquet, a dinner held to thank those who helped support the youth. Please remember those serving and the families being served in your prayers.
