The Revelation of Jesus Christ - Chapter 1:1-20

Drilling Down: Questions for Life Groups & personal Bible Study
1.      Why is culture so focused on the end of the world? Is this a new phenomenon? What ideas and theories are prevalent today and what do you make of them? How concerned/interested are you in end times? Discuss.
2.      What do you know or have read/heard about the Book of Revelation? Read Revelation 1:1-20 and attempt to answer some key questions: To whom, what, why, when and where?
3.      What does chapter 1 say about the person of Jesus? Why is He alone the major person in this book as well as the rest of Scripture? Discuss carefully all the names and functions given to Jesus and discuss why.
4.      What do we learn in Chapter 1 about Jesus’ relationship with the churches in Asia Minor and the universal and local church today? What do you learn about how we, the church both individually and corporately, should respond to Jesus (see John 8:12, Matthew 5:14-16)? Read Revelation 1:3 and discuss the blessing attached to this book.
5.      Read Revelation 1:7-8 and 17-20. What would you say is the major theme of Revelation? In what ways has the Second Coming of Jesus been misunderstood? Read Matthew 24:36, 42-44, Mark 13:32, and 2 Peter 3:8-12.
