1.      When is compromise profitable or dangerous? Have you ever compromised against your better judgment? Read Revelation 2:12-17 and discuss how the Pergamum church compromised in word and action. 2.      What false doctrines did the Pergamum church contend with (see Numbers 22 and Revelation 2:6)? What are some common false Biblical teachings today and have you ever been faced with heresy?  What were they? 3.      What were the consequences of allowing false doctrines in the Pergamum church (Revelation 2:14-15)? What is theconnection between what we learn and how we live? How does one’s beliefs impact one’s actions? Discuss 4.      What are the dangers of the two extremes of legalism and/or liberty? Their commitment to peace and tolerance had degenerated into a weak sentimentality and now posed a serious ethical and theological threat... John Stott: If love is the first mark of a true and living church then the second is truth because the Scriptures hold love and truth together in balance...the truth is meant to liberate but the truth does not mean a license to liberty...
