Drilling Down:  Questions for Life Groups & personal Bible study
  1.      When have you been on the giving or receiving end of a broken promise? How did it make you feel? Why do we live a world with so many broken promises?
 
2.      Read Revelation 3:7-8. Why is Philadelphia considered the faithful or model church? What do we learn about their character as well as the character of God (Isaiah 40:25, 43:15, 57:15 and Numbers 23:19)?
 
3.      Read Revelation 3:7-9. What is the promise of an open door and why is Jesus the only one with keys? Read and then discuss John 10:9, John 14:6 and Hebrews 10:19-20. Have you received this promise?
 
4.      Read Revelation 3:10-11. What is the promise of preservation? Does this mean His church will be completely protected from all trials? Read and discuss John 5:3, John 15:19-20, 2 Corinthians 11:25 and John 17:15. How should we respond to this promise?
 
5.      How do we often identify ourselves falsely? Read Revelation 3:12-13. What is the threefold promise of a new identity in Christ? Discuss pillars (Psalm 144:12), place (Philippians 3:20) and new name (2 Corinthians 5:17). How can we see ourselves the way Christ sees us? How can we believe and trust these promises of God personally and as a church?
