UC Davis Arboretum 1-28-17

WOW starts out the New Year with a few surprises.
First, for this hike only, we are gathering at the church on the 4th Saturday, not the 3rd, due to a hike leader scheduling conflict.

Second, again, just for this hike, we will gather at 9:00 A.M. rather than our usual 8:00 A.M.  Sleep in.

Third, this is more of a stroll than a hike along a paved and flat trail through the renowned UC-Davis botanical arboretum, just 12 miles away.
This stroll is intended to accomplish two goals.  First, this stroll will allow those traveling by wheelchair or stroller, or who just prefer an easy, dust- and poison oak-free walk, to join us.  Secondly, the walk will explore some native and non-native drought-tolerant plants and landscaping for ideas to incorporate into that "xeriscape" (look that one up) yard you may be thinking about.  (It may be raining a lot, but unless we get a good, cold snow pack for a few years running, we are not out of the dry woods yet!  Besides, water conservation is a good idea in any event, and these plants can be lovely on their own rights.)

We will gather at the church at 9:00 A.M. in the north parking lot to sign-up, hear an overview of the morning and organize carpools to the Arboretum.  The stroll will start just behind Natural Foods in the garden area and loop around the Arboretum.  If the weather is good, we can enjoy lunch at the oak grove.  Alternatively, there are a few places to buy lunch back at the end of the loop in the Natural Foods shopping center.  If you have questions, call Ken Trott, stroll leader at (530) 867-3130.
