Large quantities of fruits and vegetables are donated to Northwest Harvest every month, but the organization does not have the people power inhouse to package this produce for distribution. Alki UCC members volunteer as a group to be “produce packers” at NW Harvest.
WEST SEATTLE FOOD BANK
Hunger is a real problem in Seattle. Members of our church began the West Seattle Food Bank in 1981, and it currently serves over 500 families a week. We regularly collect non-perishable food items to keep the local food bank well stocked. Church members are sent home with paper bags to fill with food and return to church the next week, which are brought forward as part of our offering during the worship service.
"CROP" HUNGER WALK
Neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world. Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.
Since 2005 our church has hosted the annual Seattle CROP Walk on the first Sunday in October. Walkers from many churches gather here and walk the scenic route around Alki Beach while raising money for local and global hunger-relief.
CHURCH WORLD SERVICE works with partners to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world. Together we reach out to neighbors in need near and far--not with a hand out, but a hand up. So, if you’re looking to help build a better world—a world where there’s enough for all—you’ve come to the right place!
Our church supports Church World Service projects in a variety of ways, through special offerings during the year, an alternative Christmas gift project, and supporting refugee families.
