Volunteer Opportunities

We would not be able to function without our volunteers...period!  God continues to bless our Center with volunteers whose gifts and talents come in all shapes and sizes. If you have a heart for our ministry, we would love to help you find a volunteer opportunity that is just right for you!

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Receptionist: This volunteer serves as a front line representative of the Center.  Duties include: answering incoming calls, welcoming clients and ensuring that the proper paperwork is issued/collected.  As time permits, would ideally be able to do light administrative work as needed.  This position is extremely valuable as it serves as the first impression of our Center to a client, either via phone or in person.  This position is needed during any and all of our business hours, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10-4 and Wednesdays from 10-7.

Clothes Closet Sorting/Organization: We are fortunate to receive many donations – including but not limited to: maternity clothing, baby clothing, nursery items, furniture, diapers and wipes and nursing supplies.  Upon receipt of the items sorting, weeding out and organization is necessary.  We need those blessed with organizational skills to help make these donations attractive for our clients after they’ve earned the points to shop.  Volunteers could set their own schedule based on availability during our normal business hours Tuesday through Friday.

Delivery Driver: Occasionally we are unable to make donations available to our clients due to staining, heavy piling, defect, missing parts or poor condition.  In these cases we would wish to have a volunteer who was willing to come and pick up such items and deliver them to an agency who can use them such as Mothers Helping Mothers.  This would be on an as-needed basis, averaging bi-monthly.

Administrative: Due to the high volume of paperwork involved in our program we have a need for constant replenishment.  We are looking for someone who combs the stock of materials used and ensures adequate working levels are maintained.  In addition, notify the Operations Manager when short stock is identified.  Volunteers could set their own schedule based on availability during our normal business hours Tuesday through Friday.

Phone Outreach:  Many times clients will be unable to schedule a future appointment, or they have called to cancel and were not able to reschedule at that time.  Thus, a follow up phone call list is generated each week by the Nurse.  We require a volunteer who enjoys phone interaction with others and can serve as a caring voice on behalf of the Center.  It is important our clients know we care about and appreciate them, which is accomplished largely in part through follow up and phone outreach.  Volunteers could set their own schedule based on availability during our normal business hours Tuesday through Friday.

Client Advocate: This volunteer serves our clients face to face for initial intake appointment, an on-going educational “Earn While You Learn” appointment and in-house “shopping”.  Our client advocates’ most important qualities are dependability, compassion and a willingness to listen.  The advocate forms relationships with clients who come to depend upon their support and encouragement, creating accountability.  This position is needed during any and all of our business hours, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10-4 and Wednesdays from 10-7.
