My name is Alicia Orozco. I am so happy to be part of the Hope 4 Kids family. I have had the privilege to work with children for 5 years now and I love it every day. I can't imagine doing anything else. I love seeing how they grow and learn every day with or without me. Being able to see that "aha" moment for children is great.
I currently have a BA in Early Childhood Studies. I discovered in High school that working with children is what I want to do. Right after graduating I began taking Early Childhood Education classes at SBCC. While taking classes, the opportunity to teach in a classroom setting came up for me and I took it. For two years I was an intern at Kinko's Early Learning Center. It is the school that is associated with SBCC and is mainly children that have parents who attend SBCC. Here is where I learned everything I know so far as a teacher.
After graduating from SBCC, I then transferred to CA State University Channel Islands and graduated in May of 2011. While in school, I studied in two more schools located in Oxnard that helped me discover different ways of teaching things to children. In February of 2010, I began working for Santa Barbara County of Education where I worked with children with special needs in a preschool setting. I believe having all of the experiences that I have gone through has really prepared me for all the amazing things and challenges that it takes to be a teacher. As a teacher you never stop learning and I am glad that I get to learn from all the teachers, children and families.
When I am not working, I like to spend my time with my family and friends. I try to do new things every once in a while but usually stick to reading and relaxing.
I look forward to working with all the families who come to H4K!
