Dorothy Coleman, the woman behind the
Mrs. Coleman began her career utilizing her God-given gift of decorating and baking in 1969 at Koehler Bakery in North Little Rock.
In 1989, a co-worker by the name of “Mickey” opened a bakery called Mickey's Cake Shop. Together, these two ladies took the cake industry to another level creating customized cakes with an unbeatable taste. In 1997, Mrs. Coleman purchased the bakery from Mickey, but decided to keep the name that so many of their customers had come to recognize as the place for great tasting cakes. She later included "Special Affairs" to the name as Mickey’s expanded its products and services. Included in the expansion were the wedding consulting and event planning services of the oldest of the Coleman daughters, Kendra Boyle. The combination of providing customers with the stress-free planning of their unforgettable event, and the "unsurpassed quality and design" of Mickey’s cakes, helped to turn family moments of any size into a Special Affair.
What is their secret? With all products being prepared on-site, you can believe the main ingredient is "LOVE". The old-fashioned, “just-like-grandma-use-to-make” approach to mixing and baking gives all the cakes that homemade taste. This, coupled with the latest confection designs, is the absolute best combination of something old and something new.
But Mickey's is more than just a place for cakes and events. It is home for the employees and the customers that continue to come back. From weddings to anniversaries, from Sweet 16 to graduation and baby showers, Mickey’s cakes have become an embedded family tradition.
