Rest & Refresh
What is Rest and Refresh?
Our staff of caring volunteers have joined together to provide FREE, monthly respite “nights off”, to families who face the added day-to-day challenge of providing care to a loved one with a special need.
Who is eligible to be part of this program?
Families with children who face a physical, emotional or mental disability are encouraged to utilize Rest and Refresh’s monthly service. Siblings are also invited to attend.
Why does CFMC offer this program? Chelsea Free Methodist Church is a community of believers who love God and love people. Many of our volunteers have a personal connection to the special needs community. The ministry was birthed out of a deep desire to let families know they are not alone—God cares about your struggle—and we do too!
How often are services provided?
The third Saturday per month, Rest and Refresh will host a Respite Care Night from 5:00—9:00 PM at our Activity Center located in the 400 building on the Washington St. Education Center Campus. Monthly “nights off”, will grant the precious gift of time to families, freeing you up to focus on your own personal and recreational needs.
How will my child be cared for? Your loved one will participate in an enriching, recreational experience, in a carefully planned, safe environment. Through the use of activities such as games, crafts and music, your child will be loved and cared for. Care givers will be selected based on your child’s specific needs. A one-to-one caregiver ratio will be maintained within a two-person team to maintain relationship consistency and continuity of care.
All volunteers are required to submit to a background check and have participated in a Rest and Refresh orientation program. Siblings will participate in age-and-ability-appropriate activities with caring adult supervision as well.
If you are interested in becoming part of our program, please contact us to secure a family application. The application will help us to get to know your family and your unique set of needs. A detailed medical assessment will help our team comprised of professional education and nursing volunteers select participants by matching individual needs with available care giver qualifications. Space is limited.
