Polar Extremes & Des Moines Parade
Check out the photos below — you will see by these smiling faces of our children, we had a very fun week exploring God's love in the Arctic with Popsicle the Penguin. (Popsicle was on vacation from Antarctica to be with us).
Each day brought us closer together as we became explorers of God's love with art projects with Guide Kirsten and Guide Dayna. One day we made green scarves for ourselves and for the homeless shelter to give out this winter.
We had outdoor activities with Guide Susan which included lots of ice to keep Popsicle and our explorers cool in the very hot weather we had.
We held our Bible Story Time with Guide Lon down in the outdoor sanctuary where our explorers found jewels in the woods as well as jewels of wisdom from the Bible.
Jill provided yummy homemade healthy arctic treats, keeping us cool and full of energy.
We also had many young people helpers this year and because we almost doubled in size we could have not pulled off this VBS without them. Kala took pictures for our slideshow, Luisa was in charge of CDs for the music time, Rebecca, Savanna and Kolby were our puppeteers. Madison also took pictures and helped out. Mika helped with art projects. Kate helped with music and snack. Zoe drew the mural with Rebecca, drawing the penguin and helped out one day. Kendra, Royce's sitter, even helped out two days. Alex put together an artistic slideshow for us to enjoy and remember. In addition, they were at Stacie’s and my beck and call. Each with a smile on their face put their all in to helping out at all the above stations. We have some wonderful kids in our church and we should all be very proud of them.
We also have very supportive families. Thank you! Above and beyond Tom even helped out on Friday. Thanks to Nancy Allen for helping me change the banner, Barbara Gregg on her day off, Lynn for putting the VBS information and registration on the website, Belinda for the use of her puppets.
And lastly, thanks to Stacie who pulled it all together this week with her magic and beaming love of God which is contagious. In the end we all left filled with grace and knowing we had created a space where God's love could flourish. It doesn't get any better that that.
In Love and Light, Gwendolyn Benedict
