Following in his father's footsteps, Kent began his piano study and church music experience at age seven. During his high school years, he studied organ with Paul Waters, Minister of Music of a large United Methodist church in IL. He also served as Organist/Co-Director of Music at the Lakewood United Church of Christ in Colorado for eight years. Kent majored in music at Drake University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Church Music, with an emphasis in Organ Performance and Piano. His instructors included, Dr. Carol Staplin, Dr. David Herman, and Swiss organist, Guy Bovet.
Kent also served as keyboardist for several wedding chapels in the Denver metro area, maintained a piano tuning and service business, and shared a private teaching studio of forty students with his wife Terese.
