Dr. Stan Smith comes to Downey Memorial Christian Church as our Intentional Interim Minister.  Dr. Smith comes with over 40 years of ministerial experience, positive energy, and a warm and caring personality.

 

Stan retired from full time ministry in 2011 after 19 years as Senior Pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Orange, California.  A native of California, he has served churches in Glendora, Whittier, and Lafayette (No. Calif.), has been an Adjunct Faculty and Supervising Pastor for Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, and has led communication, training and spiritual life retreats for various churches, staffs and parish councils.  A graduate of Chapman University (B.A. - Philosophy) and Claremont School of Theology (Doctor of Religion - Pastoral Psychology and Counseling), he has served on numerous denominational boards.  Other involvements include Habitat for Humanity, Clergy for Choice for Planned Parenthood, the Interfaith Council of Central Orange County, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for Chapman University.  He has traveled extensively, with Chapman’s World Campus Afloat, Europe, the Mediterranean, China, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and has led tours to Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Europe.  He is currently doing interim ministries and congregational consulting.  He enjoys the beach, racquetball, sailing and reading.
