What We Believe

What Missouri Synod Lutherans believe and confess...

Our Christian Faith

Trinity Lutheran Church is part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the International Lutheran Council.  As Confessional Lutherans, we believe:

1.  That the Holy Bible:
  • Is the inspired Word of God.
  • Is God's message to all people of all times
  • Points to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior
  • Is the ultimate authority which governs our lives
  • Is without error
  • Is complete as God's revealed Will

2.  That there is only One true God revealed in Scripture and confessed in the Apostle's Creed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • The Trinity
3.  That God created everything in six natural normal days.
  • Creation
4.  That people were originally created by God pure and holy.
  • They lived according to God's will, doing what was pleasing to Him.
5.  That Adam and Eve, of their own will, went against God's command and brought sin into the world.
  • Since that time, all people have been conceived and born in sin.
  • Original Sin
6.  That sin is living out of relationship with God.
  • Sin is transgressing, disobeying, going against God's holy will in thought, word, and deed.
7.  That people cannot save themselves by their good works or by any other human means.

8.  That God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to save us.
  • That Jesus Christ is both true God and true man.  By His suffering and death on the cross He redeemed us from sin, death and the devil so that we may live under His Lordship forever.
9.  That Jesus rose from the dead on Easter morning and ascended into Heaven.
  • The Resurrection of Jesus.
10.  That we are saved solely by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Because of Jesus' death on the cross, God declares a person just - or righteous - and forgiven.
  • This happens not because of human effort but because the justification won by Jesus is applied to the one who believes (has faith) in Jesus as Savior.
11.  That faith in Jesus is a gift of God, given by the power of the Holy Spirit, thus all the glory belongs to God.

12.  That God comes to us in His Church throught the chosen means of grace.
  • The means of grace are the Holy Word (The Bible), Holy Baptism, and Holy Communion.
  • By these means, God applies the merits of Jesus' atoning death to all who believe in Jesus as their Savior.

13.  That the body and blood of our Lord are really present in the bread and wine taken at the Lord's Table.

14.  That our Lord's command to baptize all nations includes infants who, through the water and the Word, come to faith in Jesus Christ, are cleansed of all their sins and become children of God.

15.  That God has called every member of our congregation to participate in the ministry of Word and Sacrament.
  • He has called us to tell others that the only way of salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ.
  • We are also called to show our faith by deeds of love toward others and through the proper use of our time, talents, and treasures.
16.  That Jesus will come again to take all believers to Himself.
  • On that final day, all the dead will be raised.  Those who are still alive will be bodily transformed.
  • After this, the final judgment will take place where unbelievers will go into eternal damnation and believers into eternal life.
17.  That human life is sacred.
  • We believe that life begins at conception.
  • We believe that human life is sacred in every stage of development.
  • We are Pro-Life.
