The Macedonia Baptist Church was organized in 1881 in the back yard of Sister Matilda Lewis in the central Texas city of Georgetown. The young church began a life of religious teaching, preaching, and gospel singing in the Community of Georgetown. The record states the present land was purchased for twenty dollars ($20.00) on April 11,1881. Pastor Shivers, Trustees: Robert Lewis, George Ross and W. Stevenson.Esau Beard, W. Cleveland, and Julia Gainer (first missionary President), Anna Akes, Millie Hensley, Kissiah Jefferson, Emma Moore, Maggie Steiner, and Harriet Norvel were some of the early members. The first sanctuary was a long frame building that was built by the Brothers of the Church. As the Brothers worked on the structure, the women, led by the president, Sister Julia Gainer, carried the lumber. Macedonia Baptist Church 130th Annversary!
