A Report to the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on the 2010 Southwest Youth Regional Youth Conference
By: Henry Shringfellow Jr.
To Pastor Banks, Rev. Johnson, officers, and members. I would first like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to attend the 2010 secession of the Southwest Youth Regional Conference held in Pine Bluff Arkansas July 26th - 28th. This was my third time attending the conference, and even though the number of participating delegates have decreased, the spirit and excitement of the conference is still alive and well. This years theme was Solidarity With the Savior taking for 1st Corinthians 3:9.
We arrived in Pine Bluff around seven that Monday morning. After settling we prepared ourselves to attend the general assembly. These assemblies were a chance to participate in praise and worship through song, dance, and speaking. They were lead by different youth officers representing there individual state conventions. Devon Pruitt was the representing officer for East Mississippi, and did an excellent job of engaging the audience by getting them excited about praising the Lord. At the conclusion of the assembly we were then directed to or classes.
The class I chose was How to Reach, Teach, and Maintain Children and Youth Biblically taught by Dr. Lorenzo Carter, Pastor of the Center Ridge Baptist Church Shubuta, Ms. We explored the major steps needed to help impact children and youths moral excellence.
The first step in reaching this group is thought effective communication. We teach them by relaying the truth of God’s word each and every chance that we get. Finally were able to maintain children and youth by being good role model to them; a model of truth. If we as adults can do these things faithfully, young people will then be giving the best thing they could ever wish for, a life that is pleasing to the Father.
The afternoon assembly began at 1:30. Praise and worship was administered by the Alabama State Convention, which was followed by a Directors March and Award Ceremony. The assembly ended with a mediation on the theme by Rev. Rene Brown pastor of the Mt. Zion First Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La. Children and youth were then dismissed to attend their afternoon activities. The Evening assembly took place at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Pine Bluff which featured Parade Of States, and the Official welcome program.
Tuesday, after the morning assembly, classes, and activities, we attended a field trip to the Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. Some features of the tour included a film on the Campaign of President Bill Clinton, a time line on the achievements of President Clinton during his tenure in the White House, a replica of the oval office as he left it, and plus many more fascinating and educational exhibits. From there we traveled back to Pine Bluff. Tuesday’s events were conclude with wedding of the rose pageant, in with a representative from East Mississippi was crowned the winner.
On Wednesday, the conference ended with one last assembly. After praise and worship, are own Cortez Moore participate in a mime presentation. He did and excellent job, and really represented with a dynamic performance. Christiana Slone then preformed with the youth choir and did a remarkable job of representing not only East Mississippi, but New Hope as well. The 2010 Southwest Youth Regional conference was concluded with Pastor Barron Banks giving one final mediation on the theme. He spoke of Affirmation of the Savior, Proclamation of the Savior, and Celebration of the Savior. All needed to be in true Solidarity With the Savior.
I once again would like to thank New Hope for the opportunity to have attended this years Southern Regional Youth Conference. It was an unforgettable experience, and am truly grateful for the chance to have been apart of it. I also thank you for your thoughts and prayers as we journeyed there and back, they were greatly needed and appreciated. I looked forward for the opportunity to represent East Mississippi, and New Hope on next year.
