Pastor Johnson's Bio

Rev. Dr. Eric C. Johnson, D. Min.
 
Personal Background:
Pastor Johnson was born and raised in Lexington, KY.  In 1980, he married the former Karen Lee Carter.  Pastor Johnson is the proud father of two daughters, Erica and Crystal.  He has served as the Senior Pastor of the Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, OH since August 2003.  
 
Pastor Johnson's passion is the wholeness for all human beings, and his vision, ministry goal, and scriptural affirmations are: 
 
Vision -
Desires to see Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church become a church that serves the church population and surrounding communities by reaching people from all walks of life with the unifying message of Jesus, which is love, compassion, and forgiveness.
 
Long-term Ministry Goal -
To continue building up the Body of Christ through the teaching and preaching of God's word.
 
Scriptural Affirmations -
I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.  Philippians 4:13
 
And
 
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direst your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6
 
Educational Background:
Pastor Johnson received his Doctorate of Ministry in June 2011, Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, OH, (Concentration - Area of Black Church Studies).
 
Pastor Johnson received his Master of Divinty in 2002 from the Lexington  Theological Seminary, Lexington, KY.
 
In 1978, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Health from Morehead State University, Morehead, KY.
 
To further his education and increase his biblical knowledge, Pastor Johnson has also studied abroad:
  • New Testament Biblical Course, which included two weeks travel to Turkey and Athens, Greece - 2001
  • Old Testament Biblical Course, which included two weeks travel to Jerusalem - 1999
Ecclesiastical Timeline:
Pastor Johnson began his ministerial journey in August 1993, when he acknowledged that the Lord was calling him to be a servant, as well as a shepherd.
 
In October 1993, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Reginald Stephens, Consolidated Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, Pastor Johnson received his ministerial license.  In October 1997, under the pastorate of Rev. Richard Gaines, Consolidated Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, he was ordained. 
 
Before becoming the senior pastor of Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church, he served in the following churches: 
  • Associate minister of Consolidated Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, beginning in 1994 and ending in 1997.
  • Pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Midway, KY, from August 1997 through September 2003.
On August 17, 2003, Pastor Johnson accepted the position of senior pastor of the Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church, Canton, OH., and continues to faithfully serve our church.

To give back to his community, Pastor Johnson serves, or has served on the following:
  • Board Member - God's Way Bible College, Canton, OH
  • Former Member - Pastor's Advocacy Committee (PAC), Canton, OH
  • Former Member - Canton Urban League

  • Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
  • Sharyn E. Dowd Biblical Studies Award, Lexington Theological Seminary, Lexington, KY
  • Newton Ellis Fowler Ethics and Society Award, Lexington Theological Seminary, Lexington, KY

Dr. Johnson was the keynote speaker for the following events:
  • The Jewish Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Shabbat service held at Shaaray Torah Synagogue, Canton, OH - 2013
  • The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Program managed by the College of Agricultural of Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS - 2013
