She was part of the Great Black Migration when many people moved from the oppressive segregated South and travelled North arriving in Albany, NY in 1954. She resided in the Historic Rapp Road community.
Nora joined the First Church of God in Christ at 79 Hamilton Street under Bishop William Wilborn, and was included in the group of saints who marched from 79 Hamilton Street to the present site. She was an original member of the Electrifying Kitchenaires, sang with the Gospel Choralaires and served as President of the Bible Band.
She married Solomon Dees on April 11, 1959 at the new church on Jay and Lancaster Streets. They have been married for 51 years and she is known to her husband Sol as “Baby”. She is the proud mother of two sons, James and Glenn, and “Granny” to five grand children, Anika Marie, Gavin Sol, Katy Lenore, Taryn Res and McCoy Edward.
Nora Lee is a graduate of the Mid Hudson Bible Institute, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. In addition to being First Lady, she was recently appointed President of the Women’s Department. She has a great sense of humor and is affectionately called “Mother Dees.”
Her favorite scripture is found in Psalm 136:1-3,
“ O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
